Summary: Unlike many previous Ace Combat titles, Assault Horizon does not set the story in the fictional world, but on a future Earth. The player gets to fly and fight over known seas and cities such as Miami (USA), Dubai (India) or Moscow (Russia). While the basic flying controls are kept, there are many new upgrades and innovations to the known warfare in the series. One is dogfighting where you can tail behind the enemy plane and keep it close to your machine gun. The tailing sequence remains active as long as you can keep up with the enemy fighter, until he is no longer visible on the screen. You can punch the thruster to shorten the distance and make your shots more accurate and destructive. There is also a way for the enemy plane to tail you, even when you are tailing another plane. In such case you can try to outmaneuver it or hit the breaks and make a spin to quickly come up behind it and switch the roles of hunter and hunted. Another addition is the bombing run which lets you enter the bombing zone for a more detailed and easier assault against the ground targets and vessels.

Next to fighters the player gets to fly heavy bombers, commandeer a gatling gun on a chopper or fly an Apache helicopter, which changes change the warfare from previous titles. With heavy planes you can provide artillery assistance to your ground troops from way up in the sky, and zoom in based on the type of cannon you are using. With helicopters, on the other hand, you will use different tactics such as flying below rooftops to avoid enemy SAM sites and generally be closer to the ground troops of infantry and tanks.

While the story is centered around Lt. Colonel William Bishop, the leader of the Warwolf squadron, you will get to control different characters depending on the mission at hand, since the Colonel is an ace pilot and is not so skilled at flying helicopters or heavy bombers. You are part of the UN forces composed of both NATO and Russian military, fighting against an insurgent group of unknown forces and goals. As in previous games in the series, there are many known modern fighter planes to select from. F-14 Tomcat, F-15, F-16, F/A-18 Hornet, MIG 21 and MIG 29 are but a few, and you can also unlock more planes and even colors as you play.

Summary: The Adventures of Tintin: The Game is a game based on The Adventures of Tintin, a series of classic comic books created by Belgian artist Hergé between 1929 and 1983. It is released as a tie-in for the 2011 Spielberg animated movie The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and follows the story. The plot is based on events from different comics, including The Crab with the Golden Claws, Red Rackham’s Treasure, and The Secret of the Unicorn.

The game is a side-scrolling 2D platformer with minor puzzle elements to take out enemies and finding a way to proceed to a next area. Tintin is able to sneak around, steal keys, hide inside barrels, throw objects, roll, grab ledges, and jump to reach platforms. Fights are based on stealthy takedowns, but there is also regular melee combat. In later levels guards are well armed and the player needs to use objects in the environment such as banana peels or wet paint to take them out. Occasionally there is a level boss. Tintin can also send Snowy to sneak through gaps or command Haddock to stand on a pressure plate.

The Solo mode starts at a flea market in Belgium where young reporter Tintin buys a model ship. A collector appears shortly after and tries to buy it from him for ten times the amount. Intrigued, Tintin is brought to someone knowledgeable who tells him it is a replica of The Unicorn, a triple-masted ship of Charles II's fleet, that was blown up by its own captain when it was attacked by the Red Rackham in 1676. Tintin wants to find out why the captain sunk his own ship and finds a document inside the model, but the collector returns and sneakily steals the ship from him. With help from Snowy he tracks down the collector's house and from there the quest to unravel the secret of The Unicorn kicks off. He ends up at the ship SS Karaboudjan where he meets Captain Haddock. From there they travel to Ben Salaad’s Palace, then to Bagghar, a fictional port city in Morroco, and finally back to the home town of Marlinspike.

The game is interspersed with small sequences where it moves away from 2D platforming. These 3D segments include fighting on motorbikes during a chase, plane flights, scent-tracking with Snowy, diving, and on-rails sword fighting sections that are played out aboard The Unicorn back in time. The game can played in a separate Cooperative mode with Tintin, Haddock and opera singer Bianca Castafiore. These separate sets of levels require players to work together as each character has a different skill. Tintin uses a grappling hook, Haddock moves crates and breaks through walls, and Castafiore can double jump and break glass. There is also a Challenge mode where players can compete against each other.

Summary: Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed is a 3D fighting brawler set in a modern day version of Japan's Akihabara district in Tokyo. It is the sequel to the 2011 PSP game Akiba's Trip. The protagonist is called Nanashi or 'Nameless', but this can be changed before starting the game. He is an otaku-type high school student who is on his way to a job interview. He does not remember what happens next, but he ends up strapped on an operating table where he is told that just like many others he has signed a contract with the Magaimono organization. This contract allowed them to turn him into a synthister, a vampire-like superhuman that feeds off other people's life energy. He needs to absorb the energy for Magaimono, but he is quickly rescued by a girl called Shizuku Tokikaze. She is a friendly synthister and her blood allows the protagonist to withstand his task and defend Akihabara instead.

He becomes a hunter to defeat the synthisters who prey on regular humans. Along with a band of freedom fighters Nanashi gets to roam the streets of Akihabara with over 100 shops modeled after the real life ones. Fights are done with brawling beat 'em up gameplay against one or more opponents in a small environment. Just like the protagonist himself the synthisters are sensitive to sunlight, so he needs to weaken the durability of their clothing with attacks until a part starts to blink and then there is an opportunity to tear off one or multiple parts of their clothing through a stripping mechanic, exposing them to sunlight which kills them. When multiple parts blink it is possible to perform chain strips. Rather than being a hentai title, the game presents the undressing in a quirky manner and does not contain full nudity. In the fighting system it is possible to attack using multiple stances and perform duo attacks with allies. Attacks are based on targeting the head and the upper and lower body. They can be strung together to form combos and there are many types of weapons, that can be upgraded multiple times, each with their own attacks, strengths and weaknesses. The character is also able to jump, avoid incoming attacks and counter blocks with special moves that break them.

Next to the fights a large amount of time is spent exploring the environment and completing missions to earn money. There are also many NPCs to talk to. Conversations often have dialogue trees and the answers not only affect the fights with synthisters, but also the relationships with the male and female cast of characters who can join or leave the protagonist's, with the option to pursue one of four love interests with their own endgame. A lot of communication is accessible through a smartphone, for instance to receive e-mails, check the Pitter social network, access the map or use the camera to take shots. Because of the large environment it is possible to fast travel between locations. The game contains many shops where items, weapons, clothing and food can be bought and sold. The character's main characteristics are based around an attack and defense rating, as well as a large amount of customization for weapons and different types of clothing items that influence his head and upper and lower body durability during fights.

Summary: The Amazing Spider-Man is a tie-in to the movie of the same name. The story is a direct continuation of the movie and deals with an experiment gone wrong: Oscorp researches a cross-species mutation virus; the same which caused Lizard to appear. This virus reaches Manhattan and Spider-Man has to help the infected humans and find a cure.

This version returns to the open world-concept which was abandoned in the previous few instalments. Spider-Man swings through Manhattan, although the web-shooting is performed automatically by pressing a button, on the way to the next plot point. Those are linear levels in which Spider-Man visits locations like sewers or laboratories and spends most of his time fighting enemies, including the new robot foes. The combat system is reminiscent to the free-flow system used in the Batman: Arkham series: Spidey quickly moves between enemies and bashes them; when his spider-sense goes off the player needs to use the evade button before getting hit. Becauses of Spider-Man's special abilities, he can walk on the ceiling and evade some combat sequences or use his web for a stealth takedown. It is also possible to quickly retreat to the ceiling in case the hero is on the losing side of battle. Besides combat, the levels feature maneuvering, a few open-the-door puzzles and boss fights.

Of course there are various distrations in the open world sequences, the most important being side missions. In those Spidey has to solve smaller tasks like exploring Oscorp labs, passing acrobatic challenges, photographing stuff or bringing infected people to a clinic. All this rewards experience points which can be used to improve Spider-Man's abilities. The collectibles in this game are comic book pages which unlock iconic Spider-Man issues. When in the open world, the player can activate Spidey's web rush ability by choosing on of the designated points on the map: then the game takes control and automatically swings to the point.

Summary: Anarchy Reigns is a third-person brawler fighting game where players choose one of the sixteen available fighters to duke it out in large arenas. Each character is defined through different types of weak and strong attacks with a trademark weapon, a specific fighting style, throws, and different moves that can be chained into combos. They also have access to a move that clears the surrounding area and many moves are very violent and over the top. It is possible to lock on to a single character and performing evasive actions. A rampage mode is charged up while fighting and there are also bonus items such as shields or rocket launchers. The game incorporates Action Trigger Events (A.T.E.) where actions in the environments can be triggered to influence the combat. Examples of these are plane crashes, black holes or a blitz bombing. The game's backstory describes Earth as a mutant-infested wasteland with monsters and cyborgs following a new world war.

The focus is largely on multiplayer with game modes that include Battle Royale, Capture the Flag, Death Ball, Death Match, Survival and Tag Team, for up to sixteen players simultaneously. There is also a singleplayer campaign that largely shares the assets of the multiplayer environments. It is split up into two parts, one for Jack Cayman, the Gator Tooth double chainsaw-wielding protagonist from MadWorld and one for Leonhardt "Leo" Victorion,—a new character—an agent of the Bureau's Strike One unit who wields positron blades that can be charged. In the single-player portion there are many hub areas where a certain amount of enemies need to be defeated in order to progress and enter new missions. At certain points the campaigns cross over. Jack and Leo are enemies and they both want to hunt down Maximillian Caxton responsible for killing Jack's daughter. After the four stages of each campaign (White and Black), Red is opened up as an additional one.

There are four other characters who return from MadWorld: Big Bull (cyborg with a human brain), Blacker Baron, Mathilda (uses her Iron Maiden spiked club), and Rin Rin (uses the Yanlong blades). Next to Leo the new characters are Ai Rin (with the Huanglong lightning nunchucks), Douglas Williamsburg (with twin pilebunkers), Durga (cyborg bounty hunter who uses martial arts and a revolver cannon attached to his leg), Edgar Oinkie (can turn into a reptile), Fei Rin (with the ice trident Zilong), Garuda (as a mech who can transform into a jet plane), Maximillian Caxton (with both positron blades and tesla blitz), Nikolai Dmitri Bulygin (with tesla coils), Sasha Ivanoff (with an ice blade), and Zero (cybernetic ninja with katanas).

In addition to the cosmetic changes, the birds also get specific abilities based on what character they are: Red Bird gets a lightsaber, Yellow Bird gets a blaster etc. The Pigs are cast into the roles of the various bad guys of the Star Wars films such as Jawas, Stormtroopers and Darth Vader.

Summary: In the second game of the Surge Concerto series, the people of the destroyed planet Ra Ciela struggle to survive on the Soreil, a massive spaceship constructed by their distant ancestors. Their existence is threatened by mysterious beings called Sharl, which can use the Song Magic that was lost to humans long ago. In response, Soreil's people have split into two warring factions; the Genomirai Church seeks coexistence between the species, while the city of Felion believe they can only achieve peace by destroying the Sharl. Meanwhile, a group of people known as the Ancients have awakened. Having lived through Ra Ciela's last days, the Ancients can still make use of Song Magic and may hold the key to resolving Soreil's conflicts.

The player initially controls a party of two characters named Delta and Casty, and will eventually be able to switch from these two to the other main pair of Ion and Earthes. This switching, referred to as Zapping, can be done freely at save points, though at some points in the story it will be either forced or disabled. Each explorable area has a finite number of enemies that can be encountered; when a battle is initiated, the player has a turn limit to defeat as many waves of enemies as they can. Battles are turn-based, and involve the male party member actively attacking the enemies and shielding the female character as she charges up her magic.

Other game features include Genometrics, a visual novel-like segment in which the player explores the subconscious mind of a chosen character, which can impact how their conscious self later interacts with other characters. During Purification Ceremonies, party members can equip crystals that enhance their fighting abilities, while also conversing with one another and with supporting characters.

The game received an updated Playstation Vita port called Ar nosurge Plus. This release contains a new tutorial mode, new dialogue events, allows three additional supporting characters to participate in Purification Ceremonies, and includes all of the PS3's DLC costume packs as part of the base game. Three free DLC packs were also made exclusive for the Vita release.

Summary: Tyson Rios and Elliot Salem are two ex Army Rangers turned contractors for SSC, a Private Military Corporation. They embark on missions ranging from the caves of Afghanistan all the way to abandoned villages of China. Mission after mission, they realize that the wonderful life of a PMC at SSC might not be as clean as they thought it was is.

Army of Two focuses on gameplay centered around cooperative two man missions and customizable weapons. The arsenal includes pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, rocket launchers, light machine guns, sniper rifles, grenade launchers and assault rifles. Players are able to modify these with extra magazines and new barrels, suppressors, grip handles and different plates that only change the look. The player fights alongside either a live or AI team mate using two man strategies as the deadliest military outfit a government can buy. Players can lift each other up ledges, heal, cover each other's backs, combine driving a vehicle and shooting, feign death, swap weapons, protect each other with shields, perform dual parachute jumps and go "aggro" to attack the enemy's attention.

The multiplayer mode is available for four players, operating in two teams based on the co-op structure of the single-player game. Players need to complete objectives divided over three modes - Warzone, Bounties and Extraction - while dealing with the opposing team at the same time.

Summary: Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel is the third installment of the third-person shooter Army of Two series. In this game, players stray away from the protagonists in the first two games, Salem and Rios, and play as two different Tactical Worldwide Operations (T.W.O.) operatives, Alpha and Bravo. Alpha and Bravo are hired by a Mexican Mayor by the name of Cordova, who hires the two to take down the ruthless drug cartel La Guadana and its leader, Estaban Bautista.

The game, as with its predecessors, revolves around its co-op play. There is now less focus on two-player interactions to approach situations and more on regular shootouts. In addition to its already established cooperative base, this installment adds much more customization. Masks, gear, and weapons are all now customizable to tailor to the preferences of the player. The new destructible environment also adds a new aspect to the game, where players can destroy and manipulate the environment around them to their own advantage. The scoring system is based on the kills and rewarded with cash, which also acts as experience. Based on the chosen approach different rewards can be earned. Killing enemies also fills an Overkill gauge. Once full, a mode can be activated where the character for a short time becomes invulnerable with unlimited ammo, slowed down time and more damage. Overkill can be applied to a single character or to both.

Summary: Battlefield 3 is the direct sequel to 2005's Battlefield 2 and is the 11th overall entry in the Battlefield franchise. Powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 aims to provide the fast paced, team oriented online multiplayer the series has made its name upon while also providing the first true single player campaign in a numbered Battlefield game, and for the first time in any Battlefield game numbered or not is a cooperative mode. The game also introduces the Battlelog feature, an in browser service which gives in-depth statistics for individual soldiers such as their Win/Lose ratio, their favourite weapon, how accurate they are - and so forth. Battlelog also allows players to create Platoons which are not unlike clans which track the stats of a combined group, allows for scrimmaging, voice communications, and parties which will attempt to bundle friends and platoon members into squads together if possible. The game is also launched from Battlelog although settings are altered in game.

The campaign is set in the not-too-distant future of 2014, in which players take on the role of Staff sergeant Henry Blackburn and occasionally other members of his 5 man squad. For the majority of the story, Blackburn is being interrogated about knowledge of an attack on New York and as such the missions take place in a disjointed, flashback fashion as Blackburn recounts his encounter with the PLR - a dangerous terrorist organization who may be after chemical and nuclear weapons. The campaign plays like most other shooters, as the player uses various weapons to dispatch enemies and push to the end of each scenario often aided with AI companions. The campaign does offer some variety though, occasionally allowing the player to ride inside tanks, jets, and helicopters - but unlike multiplayer, it is rare that the player gets a chance to actually drive these vehicles.

The multiplayer suite contains Conquest, the classic Battlefield mode in which teams compete to control various points on a map and drain the enemy teams tickets - Rush, in which attackers attempt to destroy M-Com stations and the defenders must dwindle their tickets to 0 to win, Team Deathmatch which is self explanatory, and a Squad based variation of Rush and Deathmatch in which individual squads try to take the M-Com Stations for themselves or wipe out other squads. Like in past Battlefield games, there are multiple classes. The Assault class uses assault rifles and carries medic kits and defibrillators to heal and revive teammates, respectively. The Support class uses light machine guns and carry Ammo packs to resupply teammates and C4 which can be used to destroy tanks or crumble buildings. The Engineer class uses sub-machine guns, has a blow torch for repairing vehicles and a rocket launcher for destroying them. Lastly, the Recon class carries long range rifles and uses motion detectors and mobile spawn points to detect enemies and allow friendlies to spawn anywhere on the map. All classes can unlock new gadgets and specializations, each weapon also has an unlock tree that unlocks weapon specific items based on how often and how well that particular weapon has been used. The same applies to vehicles, which consist of tanks, IFVs, Armored personnel carriers, hummers, jeeps, helicopters and returning from Battlefield 2 are Jets.

Console editions of the game support a lower amount of players and smaller maps. Only 24 players can meet up online in the Console iterations. The PC version also only supports Windows Vista or Windows 7, as it cannot run without a DirectX 10 or 11 card.

Summary: Battlefield: Bad Company is a war-themed first person shooter and the second in the series developed exclusively for the console platforms. The title refers to a a group of the 222nd Army battalion of soldiers considered hard to steer and incompetent troublemakers. As such, they do not receive much respect in battle and squad of four decides to desert to pursue their own goals. The war takes places in fictional countries in the Middle East and the US squad takes on Russians, soldiers of the Middle East coalition and Legionnaire mercenaries. The player controls protagonist Preston Marlowe. His squad members are Terrence Sweetwater, George Gordon Haggard Jr. and the leader Samuel Redford.

Marlowe has a health injector he can use as many times as he desires to restore his health. When dying, he also respawns immediately at the last location. Players can only carry a maximum of four weapons at any given time. There are many vehicles to drive, such as hummers, buggies, boats, tanks, boats and even helicopters to control. The storyline takes the characters through different fictional countries with mission where their background and motivation is gradually revealed.

The new Frostbite DX engine makes it possible to destroy many objects and buildings, almost to completely demolishing them. This changes the way the environment can be used as a cover, as everything can be destroyed. The multiplayer portion features games with a ranking system where items and weapons are gradually unlocked. The base game includes only one mode, Gold Rush, with teams of attackers and defenders.

Through five events such as describing to the newsletter, pre-ordering the game or reaching a certain rank in the demo, players could receive player codes to unlock five new weapons: F2000 assault rifle, USAS-12 semi-automatic shotgun, M60 light machine gun, QBU-88 sniper rifle and the silenced UZI submachine gun.

Summary: Battleship is a tie-in to the action movie of the same name, which is in turn inspired by the Hasbro board game based off a pen and paper game. It is played as a first-person shooter with demolitions specialist Cole Mathis as the protagonist. The character does not appear in the movie and even though it shares the plot, the game focuses on the U.S. army stuck on a Hawaiian archipelago and not on the battleship crew from the movie. Aliens have invaded Earth and control giant battleships. At the same time they have put an impenetrable dome over their location, trapping everyone inside. Mathis has to follow orders as he fights along, repairs, activates or deactivates machinery, defuses charges and places C4 to blow up key points. Other game mechanics are standard to the shooter genre with both regular and alien weapons. Objectives and the remaining travelling distance are shown as an overlay on the screen.

Mathis has access to a remote command gadget that allows him to access Battle Command control at any moment. While activated, the game is paused and he can direct battleships on a map to unlock artillery support. However, there are alien ships as well and when they manage to take over the location a bombardment will follow, making the missions harder. The battleships can also engage each other directly, but initially the player has no further control over them. Ships have a certain amount of health and points to attack other ships or submarines. Statistics of the ships are shown during regular gameplay in the top left corner through percentages. During regular gameplay wildcards can be earned that can be assigned to the battleships. These include for instance armor, longer range, additional strength, missiles or torpedoes. One of them is called ship control and activating it allows the player to take direct control of the weapons of a battleship from a third-person view, not on the map, to take out alien ships. These sessions only last twenty seconds. There are seven main missions in total and no multiplayer options.

Summary: The Beatles: Rock Band is the second released game in the Rock Band series to focus on a specific band, following the AC/DC Live: Rock Band release.

The title borrows features from the Rock Band 2 game, but offers a revamped career mode, with the opportunity to play a story mode going through the different Beatles eras, with specific songs and venues, from The Cavern Club to their rooftop performance on top of Apple Corps' studio. Whilst the game attempts to capture the spirit of significant periods in the band's history some liberties were taken in the presentation; for example Ringo Starr is shown playing the drums on Back in the U.S.S.R. despite not appearing on the actual recording and the studio versions of songs are used in the Live at the Budokan section. Along with the now classic guitar, bass, drums, and vocals parts, the title adds the possibility to have three separate vocals parts, where each singer gets to sing in a different harmony.

The game features 45 remastered Beatles titles, and further albums will be released, available for purchase through DLCs and exclusive to The Beatles: Rock Band. This is the first time that Apple Corps allowed the Beatles’ music to feature in a video game.

Contrary to the AC/DC game which looked just like the original Rock Band, the entire game is skinned in a Beatles theme: characters, overall look and feel, sound effects. Skinned instruments were also released. Also still contrary to the AC/DC game, it is not possible to export the songs to play in Rock Band or Rock Band 2.

Summary: Blades of Time is the spiritual sequel to X-Blades by the same developer. It again follows the story of Ayumi but does not pick up on the events of the previous game. She fights with a set of blades in over-the-top hack-and-slash gameplay reminiscent of the God of War series. Slashes and kicks are linked into fast combos including finishing moves when an enemy has been forced into a submissive position. She can also pick up a variety of long-ranged weapons such as rifles or a rocket launcher and these are also used to shoot objects that are out of reach to solve puzzles. During her journey she can pick up diary pages from previous treasure hunters that explain how chaos magic has altered the environment and introduced monsters. She also meets fellow treasure hunters along the way.

Ayumi regularly discovers altars where new skills are learned. This includes for instance the ability to freeze enemies or rise giant ice crystals below them. These can only be used when a rage bar is built up with up to three levels by defeating opponents. She is also able to dash away to evade attacks or quickly close the distance towards an opponent. In a menu Ayumi can equip the items and weapons she finds. There are four slots: close combat, ranged attacks, amulets, and rings. Previously found items are not dumped and it is possible to switch between items at any moment when a certain effect is needed such as additional fire damage. Certain items can be crafted by discovering a recipe and collecting the necessary ingredients. Time referenced in the title refers to the skill Ayumi eventually learns to rewind time and fight along with a clone of herself that performs the actions that were previously done. This self-cooperative element is a way to confuse enemies carrying shield and is also vital to solve some of the puzzles in the later parts of the game. There is no in-game map but a compass can be pulled out with a visual effect for the direction that should be followed. After defeating a boss character there is often a portal that leads to a new location.

Multiplayer is available through the Outbreak mode with gameplay similar to Defense of the Ancients. It offers games where two teams attempt to defeat each other's energy tree while keeping their own alive. Between the two trees are outposts filled with computer-controlled minions and monsters. At the start of the game each player selects up to three abilities. The tree keeps regenerating energy until all outposts have been destroyed and it is enhanced by destroying enemy outposts and player-controlled heroes. Each outpost spawns characters that move towards the opponent and his outposts. By defeating heroes and outposts players earn additional respawns and open up further room for abilities. When all outposts have been destroyed respawns directly tap from the tree energy's source until eventually there is no energy left and death becomes permanent. The game also introduces boss monsters and special chests that contain a berserk charge for the heroes. Level imbalance is also detected with the introduction of Skyguard to give the losing team a chance to gain experience and move up levels. Item crafting is carried over to multiplayer, but time rewinding is not possible.

Summary: Blazing Angels is an air combat arcade game putting the player at the command of a fighter squadron in the Second World War. It's a pick-up-and-play type of game, with easy-to-grasp controls and an almost non existent learning curve.

The action covers the most important moments of the WWII, from the Battle for England to the bombing raids over Berlin, but also warps a bit the history to make for some entertaining if fictitious moments (i.e. you get to fly over Normandy on D-Day, save the day at Pearl Harbor, etc). The gameplay is quite varied, with about 18 flyable planes during the SP campaign (fighters, recon planes, dive, torpedo and level bombers) and diverse tasks and locations that prevent the game from being overly repetitive, despite a general dogfighting approach. The basic squadron command system and the specific abilities of the wingmen lend a bit of a tactical flavor to the game.

There are a dozen multiplayer game modes available: solo (Dogfight, Seek and Destroy & Aces High), co-op (Dogfight, Onslaught, Bombing Run, Kamikaze and Historical Missions) and squad-based (Dogfight, Capture the Base, Bombing Run and Kamikaze).

Summary: Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is the third main game in the first-person shooter series. Just like the previous titles it offers different environments with procedural content and free exploration. By completing quests, experience is earned to distribute skill points and build a character with through skill trees with elements of role-playing games. Loot and especially many different types of guns play an important role to complement the character path. The story is set between the first and the second game, more specifically between the two DLC items The Secret Armory of General Knoxx and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution. It tells how Handsome Jack, the main antagonist from Borderlands 2, rose to power. It is told as a flashback by Athena after the events of Borderlands 2, when she is captured and interrogated by Lilith. She teamed up with three vault hunters to head towards the Hyperion moon base Helios, but on the way they are ambushed and crash-land on the moon base. Most of the game takes place first on Pandora's moon Elpis and later on Helios.

There are four characters to choose from that were all previously NPCs in the previous games. They are Athena, Claptrap, Nisha and Wilhelm. They each represent a different class with specific skills and abilities. The gameplay is largely identical to the previous games. New elements are low gravity affecting jump height and causing bodies and loot to float away when fighting on the moon surface. O2 kits are used for air supply and they can be replenished through vents, generators and tanks dropped by enemies. The kits can also be used for movement and combat, using them as a jet pack, to hover, double jump, and to come down with a ground slam. As with the other items in the game there is large variety of kits with bonuses. Two new item types have been added next to the existing ones. The game introduces laser guns (beams, blasters, railguns etc. with low recoil) and items with a cryogenic elemental effect. The latter are used to slow down enemies or to freeze them, after which they can be smashed with a melee attack. The Grinder machine is another addition to the game. A combination of three weapons of similar rarity can be deposited there to receive a better, rare weapon. It works similarly to recipes in fantasy RPGs. Some weapons from the second game, such as the Slag weapons, do not yet exist in this game. There are new vehicles such as a Stingray hoverbike and a moon buggy.

Just like the previous games it can be played in single-player or cooperatively, both offline and online. Athena, Claptrap and Wilhelm all have skills that benefit the entire group. After completing the game the True Vault Hunter mode becomes available, just like the second game, encouraging a new playthrough to obtain the higher level content.

The game alternates between sequences set in modern-day Wygol City, as Dracula tries to undermine the efforts of Satan's acolytes, and dreamlike visits to Dracula's castle. The Prince of Darkness must explore the now-hostile fortress to locate his lost powers and other upgrades.

New gameplay features include a new set of weapons and abilities for the protagonist, like the Void Sword capable of draining the enemies' health and the Chaos Claws used to break armours and other destructible objects. In this bar, he can send and receive text messages, drink, talk to people or Play an arcade game called Rapunzel (a series of 8-bit-like short climbing levels) until he goes back to sleep. When Vincent has to make choices, a blue and red gauge appears. This gauge indicates if Vincent has been good or bad, which will influence the game ending. Apart from the Story mode, there is Babel, a special challenge in which the player has to climb as high as he can to achieve new records. Babel must first be unlocked by meeting certain conditions in Story mode.

There is also a level made exclusively for the game that was not in the film or in the novel.

The controls are system-dependent. While PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 uses the D-pad and analog and main buttons, the Wii utilizes the Wii-remote and the PC uses the mouse and keyboard. There is also two-player co-op gameplay that can have a human player drop-in during a game.

Ethan Thomas is working under SCU (Serial Crime Unit) again so his Forensic Tools are back. Only this time you'll have to choose which gadget to use for the crime scene instead of letting the game choose it for you. Accomplish Points is also back in the game and these increase depending on how good or bad you finish a level.

Summary: Create is a game which tries to address the player's creativity. It is basically a sandbox with small gaming elements. In the campaign the player gets presented with 14 scenarios, e.g. an amusement park, which the player needs to redecorate. He basically has two options to do so: enrich the play world with new objects, buildings and animals or manipulate the objects already on the field. It is, for example, possible to change the colours and textures of objects or use graffiti and stickers.

This rewards creativity points which are needed to unlock the next challenge. The player also has to solve challenges similar to The Incredible Machine: incomplete contraptions are supposed to have a certain function, e.g. leading a racing car from point A to B. The player needs to complete those by placing objects into the set-up.

Of course there is also a free playing mode in which the player can create (and upload) his own worlds. The tools and objects are unlocked during the campaign.

Jackie is about to be taken out by the henchmen of Mafia don Paulie Franchetti when the curse grants him supernatural powers. The game offers a mixture of classic first-person shooting with regular weapons, along with the powers of The Darkness. The latter cannot be used in well-lit environments. In dark areas, Jackie can combine both powers. Jackie can switch back and forth during gameplay, and as The Darkness, the viewpoint is placed lower, but with a broader point-of-view. Darkness powers allow Jackie to summon darklings (different types of creatures), summon dark tentacles that grow from his back to break through barriers and smash opponents, along with maw tentacles for close combat. Estacado can also create a black hole and force it to collapse on itself for wide-range damage, and summon darkness guns that fire lightning bolts.

Summary: Days of Thunder is based on the movie of the same name. Players take on the role of rookie driver Cole Trickle who is trying to make it big in stock car racing.

The main mode of the game lets the player race through circuits. This mode features several races with parts of the story peppered in between. This process continues with harder circuits being unlocked when the previous one is beaten. This mode also unlocks the tracks and additional cars that can be used on the other game mode. This other mode is called the Track mode. It lets the player race an exhibition race on any unlocked track of their choice.

While the film dealt with the rise of a NASCAR driver, this game lacks the actual NASCAR license.

Summary: Brainiac and his robotic minions are invading Earth, and a final war between superheroes and villains have left humanity defenseless. As one of these newly-transformed superhumans, players will choose to save the planet from Brainiac for the good of humanity, or to their own nefarious ends.

As an action MMO in the DC Universe, DC Universe Online will pit players with or against each other under the watchful eyes of major comic characters. Upon starting a character, players can choose to be a hero or a villain, with the tone and specifics of their missions changing accordingly. Next, they choose a mentor - Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman for heroes, and Lex Luthor, The Joker, or Circe for villains. Though players will take missions from many different DC characters, this mentor will guide their overall progress to the level cap.

Character customization is then based on appearance, and a few specific archetypes matching up to traditional MMO roles. Nature and Sorcery powers evolve into Healer roles. Gadgets and Mental powers evolve into Control roles. Fire and Ice powers evolve into Tank roles. Each power has two trees which change the final role slightly, and the player only earns enough skills points to fill one tree, or a combination of both. All roles also have the ability to perform a DPS damage role, with powers shifting their effects accordingly. Players can switch between the two roles on the fly, with customized power setups for each.

DC Universe does not rely on traditional "auto-attack" MMO combat, and instead uses a system most analogous to a third person action game. Players can specialize in a number of weapon styles, each having a melee and ranged attack. Weapons are generally more effective at one attack than the other (i.e. guns for ranged, swords for melee). As the player earns skill points for progressing through XP levels, they can spend these points on combos for their different weapons styles, which give stronger attacks or debuffed states. Additional physics effects allow players to pick up objects in the world and throw them as weapons. The result is that the player is actively engaged in basic combat, and not simply firing off powers.

Gotham City and Metropolis are the two major locations, with the Justice League Watchtower (for heroes) and the Hall of Doom (for villains) acting as safe social zones. Both cities have recognizable locations from the comics, and a variety of hidden collectibles to reward exploration. Players can pick from super-speed, flight, or acrobatics to scale buildings and travel around the cities. A wide variety of other notable locations are recreated as PvP arenas, PvE "Alerts", or end-game Raids. These include Arkham Asylum, the Daily Planet, the Batcave, and even Area 51.

DC Universe has both PvE and PvP servers. Players can always be attacked by members of the opposite faction on PvP servers, even at lower levels. Most PvP takes place in Arenas, where players are dropped into maps with a specific goal (such as capturing and holding zones for longer than the opposing team). Standard arenas require players to use their own characters. Legend Arenas require players to use a familiar DC character, with a preset group of powers (so that everyone is on roughly equal footing). Characters for Legends are unlocked by completing collection quests inside the two cities.

Quests are the strong focus of DC Universe Online, and districts of the city are set up almost exclusively to support sets of missions. Quest lines usually last for 4-5 missions each, and send the player throughout that district and into an instanced boss lair for the end. Upon defeating the boss, players are rewarded with a "Headline" cinematic drawn by DC artists. Alongside the quests, players can also take collect and "beat up" missions from questgivers within the district for smaller rewards. Players can also spot random events within the city and intercede - so villains can notice a poor civilian to mug, or heroes can save citizens trapped under debris.

Armor and weapons with unique looks drop from enemies or are rewarded by quests, and once an item has been worn its "style" will be added to a character's style pane. By selecting and locking styles players can change the look of their character's armor or weapon, regardless of what the item they're actually equipped with looks like.

Both versions of the game support text and voice chat. Players can plug a USB headset or keyboard into the PS3 and use them within the game. Likewise, most gamepads can be plugged into the PC and used to control the game. Though cross-platform integration was planned, PC and PS3 players play on completely separate servers.

While originally a monthly subscription game, DCUO became free to play on November 2nd, 2011. At the lowest access level, Free, a player can have 2 characters, carry a maximum of 1500 currency, have no ability to trade or sell on the auction house, but unrestricted access to all non-DLC content. After spending at least $5 on the game the player's account is permanently upgraded to Premium, which comes with additional character slots, unrestricted voice chat, and limited trade and auction house access. The highest access level, Legendary, still requires a monthly subscription, but includes additional character and auction house slots, unlimited currency access, and free access to all DLC content packs. The real-money-transaction store contains mainly cosmetic items, such as non-combat pets or unique or specially colored styles, but players can also purchase additional character slots or instant access to the Ambush Bug's Loot Vault.

Summary: Dead Island: Riptide is the sequel to Dead Island and just like the original game it is an open-world action game with role-playing elements. After escaping the island in the previous game, the four immune survivors (Logan Carter, Sam B, Xian Mei and Puma) land on an aircraft carrier controlled by the Australian Defence Force. After meeting some other characters, the ship is overrun and after it crashes down the four land on the island Palanai, which is also affected by the infection. As the four survivors struggle to get off the island, they also become involved with finding out the cause of the outbreak through Frank Serpo, the local researcher, Dr. Kessler, and the WHO researcher, Harlow.

Players can choose any of the four survivors, each with their own abilities (even starting with a save game of the character from the previous title), or control the new character, John Morgan, who is also immune. He has a powerful kick attack that is very useful in close combat situations. The gameplay is largely identical as the survivor roams the surroundings, defeats enemies and gathers tools and weapons that can be customized and upgraded. The tropical setting is retained, but the surroundings are diversified through towns, cities and jungle. Water also plays an important role now, with large areas and cities that are flooded and many parts that can be traveled by boat. Characters can still move by foot or use a vehicle. Next to the regular quests that mainly require the character to fetch items, there are hub defense missions where a certain area needs to be barricaded and defended for a set amount of time. The game offers new weapons and customization options, as well as new enemies. Unlike in the first game, firearms are available almost right away. Thus, the player has the choice to play it as a first-person shooter rather than a brawler like the first game emphasized on.

Throughout the game, experience is gained to develop combat abilities through a skill tree next to the modified weapons. Characters also still have access to fury attacks that provide additional perks as long as the meter does not run out. Just like in the first game, the player is free to explore in any direction, but opponents level along with the main character to match the abilities. In addition to single-player, the game can once again be played cooperatively with up to four players.

Defiance features advanced character customization. Players have the ability to customize everything from the clothes they are wearing to their facial hair style. Players also have the option to be a Human or an Irathient, a humanoid alien species that are similar to humans. There is not a strict class system, and instead allows players to choose from one of four origins, which are veterans, outlaws, machinists, and survivalists. Origins do not affect the abilities, weapons, or outfits the player can choose, and instead just serve as a starting point and background for your character. The game's key feature is its Arkfall Events, which are dynamic events which pit humans, aliens, and monsters against one another in order to obtain expensive alien technology.

Demon's Souls is an action role-playing game where the player can choose from a wide variety of starting classes, including hunters, knights, soldiers, priests and magicians. The objective is to proceed through five worlds and defeat the demon bosses at the end of each level. Killing enemies will give the player souls, the game's currency. These can be traded in for weapons, spells, miracles, items and equipment or to upgrade the player's stats at the Nexus, the world's central hub.

During combat, the player has to watch the protagonist's stamina bar, which decreases with physical movements like attacking, evading or blocking. Death does not end the game: once the hero dies he respawns in soul form. This means that his health is reduced, but he can do more damage against foes. Every time the protagonist dies he loses all the collected souls. However, these can be regained by touching the spot where the character lost his life.

The game features an online portion, where it is possible to observe other players playing the game in "alternate universes", running around the level as white phantoms. Places where players died are marked and can be viewed as a replay, to warn the player of imminent danger. It is also possible to leave messages about dangers like strong enemies or traps on the ground, which can be read by other players. With the use of special items, it is also possible to play cooperatively with other players or invade their worlds to kill them.

Summary: Devil May Cry 4 is the second sequel to the original Devil May Cry game.

This time the player gets cast as Nero, a member of the Order of the Sword who worships Sparda, in addition to playing as the previous games' protagonist, Dante. The game follows the story of Nero in which witnesses the assassination of the leader of the Order of the Sword, Sanctus, by no other than Dante. The murder causes chaos and Sanctus' deputy, Credo, orders Nero to go after Dante, who is heading for Fortuna Castle.

Nero is equipped with a sword (Red Queen), a revolver (Blue Rose), and powers from his Devil Bringer arm that works like Dante's Devil Trigger. They also give Nero special abilities: pulling and pushing enemies, slamming them on the ground and zooming across areas. Overall gameplay with Nero is still hack-and-slash but with fresh attack styles and techniques. Dante joins later in the game for some levels of his own. His gameplay stays mostly intact with the four attack styles: Trickster, Sword Master, Gunslinger, and Royal Guard.

The Windows version adds the Legendary Dark Knight mode with a large number of enemies on the screen along with the Turbo mode at a faster speed. The cut-scenes run at 120 frames per second while the console sequences are run at 30. Network ranking is however, not supported.

Summary: Diablo III is the third instalment in Blizzard's franchise. The plot is set twenty years after the events of Diablo II, when a star falls on the cathedral in Old Tristram (the same cathedral that the hero had to explore down to the depths of Hell in the original Diablo). The hero, one of five classes (Barbarian, Monk, Demon Hunter, Witch-doctor and Wizard), male or female, sets off to investigate the mysterious falling star.

The game, like its predecessors, is a dungeon crawler in which the player fights against hordes of enemies ranging from beasts and undead to actual demons. The environment is made of various maps. The towns and cities have predefined maps, and the fields and dungeons have randoms maps. These maps are reset any time the player reloads the game. The game has four acts, two game modes (normal and hardcore) as well as four difficulty levels: Normal, Nightmare, hell and Inferno. In hardcore mode, defeat is not allowed. The patches also added «monster power» setting, which allows to scale selected difficulty additionally from 1 to 10.

Each character have multiple sets of abilities to choose from: a standard (left click) attack, a special (right click) attack, four special abilities (key 1 to 4) and three passive abilities. For each class, each slot has a specific set of abilities that get unlocked by levelling-up. Some of these skills have a set of runes that adds a special effect to that same skill. Setting specific skills and runes is what will make your character unique.

Another important part of customization is the equipment. The equipment slots are: Head, shoulder, arm, chest, belt, legs, feet, main hand and off hand, as well as an amulet slot and two ring slots. The variety of random magic attributes of the equipment means switching armor pieces and weapons regularly. Further customization include dyes to color the armor pieces, and gems that can be put in socketed equipment to add more magic attributes. New equipment can be dropped by foes, bought in stores and auction houses or crafted in the forge. There is also a jewelry where one can make his own gems and amulets.

In solo mode, three different followers (Templar, Scoundrel and Enchantress) are eventually available to accompany the hero of his/her quest. They also have unique skills to choose and have six equipment slots (Rings and amulet, off hand and main hand, as well as a slot for a special tool, unique for each follower). A friend can also join a solo game at any time. The follower will become unavailable as the game switches to co-op mode. There is no friendly fire in multiplayer. There are also public games that the player can join instead of playing solo or co-op. A simple PVP mode is available too, called «duels», being free for all death match for up to 4 players.

A new addition to Diablo III is the auction house, where items are exchanged for in-game gold or real money, also usable to purchase Blizzard merchandise. The game features a wide array of achievements earned upon meeting certain requirements. Due to the random fields, dungeons and available sub-quests, it takes many play-through to get achievements, complete quests and find all of the game's sub-plot and character's back-story.

Summary: DiRT is the first racing game in the Colin McRae series not to solely focus on the rally championship. It features other offroad events with vehicles like buggies, jeeps or trucks all licensed from the manufacturers. Races are not always solo against the times of other drivers, but up to eight cars often race together on a single track.

The main game mode is the career where you work your up a pyramid of different tiers with events ranging from normal Rallies over Crossover or Corr to Hill Climb. For every event you complete successfully, you get points and money. Money is used to buy new cars. While the amount of money depends on choosing one of the five difficulty levels, the amount of points depends on your final result in the event; you receive the maximum of 10 points for completing an event with a first place regardless of the difficulty level. These points are needed to unlock new events in the current tier. If you have gathered enough points the next tier will be automatically unlocked so you don't need to do every race in a tier in order to unlock the final event at the top. The difficulty level not only influences the strength of the other drivers, but also how critical the damage is upon hitting obstacles. Some events are further split up into two or three races where the damage is carried over and the allotted sixty seconds worth of damage repair is not offered after every subevent. The main parts that can be repaired are the engine, turbo, exhaust, gearbox, bodywork, wheels, suspension, cooling system and it is also possible to clean the entire car.

All events feature several licensed true-to-detail-vehicles which also have a detailed damage model. To help you make it even more individual, you can create your own look of the car with several dozens predefined kits. There are also 182 different liveries to collect in the game and 46 different cars.

In addition to the career mode, the game features the classic Colin McRae rally mode with four championships where you need to proof your worth in several car categories like 2WD or Classic. Of course you can also do a time trial, a single event or a single race.

If you're tired of driving only against the AI, you can go online and compete against up to 100 other players at the same time. An official ranking ladder is also available. After each race your best times can be compared directly to other drivers worldwide.

Summary: As it's predecessor, the racing-game DiRT 2 doesn't just focus on accurately simulating the Rallye-sport like the earlier installments of the Colin McRae-Series did. Instead eight types of Offroad-events await the player during the main campaign called DiRT Tour:
Rallye - The player has to get as fast as possible to the finish line. He's the only one on the course at the same time and instead has to deal with hairpin curves and difficult terrain.
Trailblazer - Basically the same as Rallye but instead of narrow courses, this mode features long and open stages.
Raid - Races over wide and open terrain with many dangerous shortcuts allowing the player to get distance between him and the other drivers.
Landrush - All drivers start at the same time and the tracks are littered with crazy curves and jumps.
Rallyecross - Takes place on round-courses with a mix of dirt and asphalt streets.
Gatecrasher - The player has a limited amount of time to get to the finish line. To replenish that time, so-called gates are scattered around the track each granting +2 seconds upon destruction.
Domination - Similar to Rallye, the tracks are divided into sectors. Each sector gives 1-10 points depending on how fast the player in relation to his opponents finishes it. In addition 1-10 points are added for his final position in the race once he crosses the finish line. The winner is the driver with the most points.
Last Man Standing - As the name implies, the goal here is to race around the course and be the last car in the race at the end with the last car being removed after each lap.
Each event requires either a different car or at least a so-called race-pack for that car both bought with the money earned by winning these events. Each car can be customized both visually and under the hood with parts unlocked by gaining a level. Experience points are awarded both for finishing races as well as completing missions like jumping over the finish line or getting through a race without any damage. The amount of cash earned at the end of each race, is influenced by the difficulty level. The higher the difficulty, the higher the reward. In addition the difficulty-level also changes the amount of flashbacks that are available for the race (from five to none). Flashbacks allow the player to rewind the action a few seconds when he made a mistakes or crashed and allows him to try that section again - hopefully without making the same mistake a second time.

The game features many real-world racers including their voices and their cars who give the player tips during the course of the DiRT-tour and also offer him additional challenges including duels and time trials. They'll also take part in team-events with the player, if he keeps them happy by not crashing into them that often during races.

Summary: DiRt 3 is a rally racing game. Just like expected, most time is spent in races which, at least in most scenarios, are set in offroad environments. The main difference to other racing events is, that the player drives not alone, but has a front-seat passenger with him, who announces when to turn. The game features overall 98 courses, but some of those are just variations of the same. Also on board is the iconic ability to turn back time after screwing up.

In contrast to DiRt 2, in this installment there are other playing modes than the career available, e.g. a single race. But the career is still the heart of the game; here the player tunes his car, participates in races and earns experience points, which are used to unlock new cars. There are six different race modes to solve during the career; e.g. regular races and "trailblazer" (no passenger available). Two of those are newly introduced: drift tournaments and Gymkhana, which are basically confined areas with a lot of stunt opportunities - the goal is to perform as many as possible in a limited time. Additionally every mode has special tricky bonus goals which reward more experience when fulfilled.

Summary: G-Force is a licensed game based on the movie of the same name. The player takes the control of Darwin who is member of a secret government organization consisting of guinea pigs. But Darwin is not even close to helpless: various guns and gadgets, e.g. a jet pack, a electronic whip or a grappling hook, are used to dispatch of them. It can be summoned at any time and is able to reach high grounds, to deactivate electronic devices, to fly through small holes and even to slow down time to pass through fast moving obstacles.

During the course of the game the player can find computer chips and hidden disks. On one hand these can be used to refresh ammo and health or to upgrade weapons. There is also the option to switch to a infrared view and scan objects. This rewards additional information.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions have an optional playing mode for 3D glasses.

Summary: DmC: Devil May Cry is the fifth game in the hack-and-slash third-person action series and the first not largely developed by Capcom. This title is a reimagining of the series, with the same protagonist Dante, but set in an alternate universe. The Dante in this game is very different from before, doing away with the trademark white hair and altering the main character as well as the game's tone with a much more Western influence. The gameplay is still largely identical as Dante engages many opponents with a fast fighting style, stringing together combos and hits in quick succession.

The game is set in the fictional, dreary Limbo City that is secretly controlled by demons that are also after Dante. Through a girl called Kat he eventually comes in contact with his long-lost brother Vergil who leads a rogue group called The Order bent on extinguishing the demons. Eventually the two discover they are Nephilim, offspring of the demon Sparda and an angel Eva, which allows them to see and engage demons. The game mixes fantasy environments with surreal settings and technological touches such as being inside a TV stream of a biased news station "Raptor News" or engaging a soft drink company from within. Next to the fighting there are often platforming sections that involve grappling to move around combined with auto-target firing.

Dante's basic weapon is his sword Rebellion, combined with up to three melee weapons at a single time and guns (the twin pistols Ebony and Ivory) as a ranged attack. Players are often encouraged to quickly switch weapons to keep combos going, grapple enemies closer (Hell weapons) or zoom in Dante himself (Angel weapons), and also quickly dodge to evade attacks. Additional weapons and attacks are acquired through armoury unlocks. These are purchased through souls found along the way, the main currency that comes in different forms and also provide health. In addition he gets access to two separate ranges of weapon split into Angel and Devil. These are coded through the colours blue and red respectively, and later on enemies can often only be defeated by using the correct weapon in the right situation. Angel weapons consists of a shuriken and a scythe called Osiris, while Hell weapons wield massive power through a giant axe, and a pair of lava fists that can also optionally be charged. When a certain amount of power has been gathered Dante can activate the Devil Trigger mode where time slows down.

Summary: Dynasty Warriors 7 returns again to the fall of the Han Dynasty, and this time follows through to the end of the Three Kingdoms Era. Enemy officers can be befriended and will join the player in combat. Characters can now equip nearly any weapon in the game, although they have affinities for certain weapons over others. The two equipped weapons can be switched between in real time, activating a switch attack and extending combo attacks.

Summary: Koei brings us again a new addition to the Dynasty Warriors series. This installment still features the same storyline based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, with the various officers as playable characters. The character list and appearance is the same as in Dynasty Warriors 6, meaning some of the previous game's characters are not available.

The difference in this one is that the player is allowed to choose only one character for the chosen force (either Wei, Wu or Shu) who starts in a village that will act as the hub, or camp, from which the game battles are accessed. By completing story missions, some characters are added and can be played as without starting a new game, meaning all acquired weapons, items and materials will be kept.

The chosen character can be customized in various ways. Apart from the main weapon, one sub weapon, chosen from many weapon types, can be equipped. Both weapons can be switched anytime during battle, to accommodate the situation. A new addition is the Chi system which allows to set special abilities to the character, there are four slots to equip Chi (the two arms and legs). Weapons can also be customized by adding Orbs that give different abilities, such as elemental properties.

In the village, the player can exchange materials, buy weaponry, items for use in battle, Chi skills and Orbs. Some NPC's may appear in the village, some giving materials or items, or Officer cards, which can be set to help the Village's growth. Over time, better items can be acquired from the shops.

By talking to the quest board or the Guard at the village's gate, main Missions or Requests can be chosen. Each battle is a series of small maps where various enemy soldiers and weaponry are fought, eventually leading to the commander of the enemy army. The goal of each battle can vary, some are classic goals like "Defeat the Commander" and some, less battle oriented, like "Retrieve all treasure boxes". In addition, there also are bonus missions that require the player to defeat a particular unit, reaching a certain point before a certain time, etc. Each bonus mission gives extra experience points upon completion.

Other new additions to the battle system are the possibility to have aerial battles, and the main feature of the game: the Fury Mode, unleashed when the Fury gauge (replacing the traditional Musou gauge) is full. The furied character has better stats and move sets, and can unleash the infamous Musou attack to deal some extra damage.

To add to the surreal look of the game, some new bosses are actually massive beast-like weapons, and usually require the help of other players to defeat them. Multiplayer mode is available only via AdHoc connection, and can connect up to four players.

Summary: Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is the sequel to the B-movie-inspired, guns-n-splosions budget game Earth Defense Force 2017. Once again, the gameplay is hectic, fast-paced, arcade-style action with giant bugs, massive guns, and huge destructible environments. Players should expect a lot of bugs to be splattered, and a lot of buildings to come crashing down.

Story and Setting

EDF: Insect Armageddon takes place in New Detroit which has become the focus of a new intense alien bug invasion. Looking a little like Crackdown, players take to the city in one of four EDF troopers with their own armor, weapons, and quirks. Little is made of the story in the game aside from the bugs returning and hitting New Detroit, and players are part of a three-man team known as Lightning Alpha. A mission really only ends in a failure if all three soldiers are critically injured. As long as at least one remains standing, he can revive the other two and keep the action going.

Weapons and Armor

Insect Armageddon boasts over three hundred weapons, four armor classes, vehicles (like tanks) and turrets. Players choose an armor class before each stage, and as they progress through the game, they are able to earn experience and level up the armor, abilities, and weapons. In this sense, the game has replay value in that upgrades and experience are not shared. If you pick the Jet armor, your earned experience and weapons will only be available to the Jet armor. This allows for an opportunity for players to play through four times maximizing each suit of armor.

Speaking of the armor, the four types are: The Trooper, which is the standard class, has the most weapon options, and is arguably the most versatile. The Jet, which as it sounds, can fly briefly but spends most of it's time hovering just above the ground and it uses energy weapons. The Tactical armor is considered in a supporting role and is the only class with deployable mines, turrets, etc. And finally, the Battle armor is rather like a "man-tank", and is slow-moving and starts with powerful weapons.

Features

Whereas the previous game was missing an online component, but provided classic split-screen co-op antics, Insect Armageddon has ramped things up to "modern" gaming as it were. Two-player split-screen co-op returns as well as a full three-player online co-op campaign, and a larger 6-person online survival mode.

Beyond this, there are somewhat "modern gaming" standard special features including an art gallery, though, unlike a lot of games, players don't need to unlock this one. EDF: Insect Armageddon's art gallery is available right from the start.

As a successor of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory focuses on objective driven gameplay rather than just capturing flags like you do in the Battlefield Series. This means that on every map one team needs to fulfill an objective while the other needs to guard it. For example on the map "Valley" the GDF needs to build a bridge, then drive a MCP over the bridge to a nearby outpost, hack a Strogg-shield so that the MCP can fire a missile into the Strogg base so that the GDF can enter it and destroy a generator.

To make it even more complex, most objectives need to be completed by a specific class. On each side are five classes and each class has special abilities. The engineer for example can build the bridge on Valley, repair damaged vehicles or deploy identities while the Field Ops supports his teammates by handing out weapons and deploying artillery systems. Since the maps are all pretty big, you also have access to several kinds of vehicles ranging from little quadbikes to helicopters.

Unlike most multiplayer-games, the teams in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars don't just have a different skin but are actually completely asymmetrical balanced from classes over weapons to vehicles. This means that while both teams have a medic, they both function differently. The GDF medic for example behaves like every other medic by instant reviving his teammates but the Strogg technician needs a few seconds before his dead companion is alive again. To balance this out, the Strogg technician can turn dead GDF soldiers into spawn hosts. So if he dies, he respawns at such a host (if it hasn't been destroyed).

Monster battles are random encounters that appear on the map and must be triggered to enter the battle. They can be avoided. The enemies still have a chain counter gauge that fills when they get hit. Filling the gauge to a certain point staggers the enemy, allowing massive damage to be dealt. The party monsters can be customized by equipping certain items and leveled-up to a certain point, different for each monster captured.

Summary: Full Auto 2: Battlelines is the sequel to the auto racing combat game Full Auto, that debuted in February of 2006 on the Xbox 360.

The sequel builds on the original in many ways by offering improved damage modeling on all of the cars and environments, new gameplay modes, expanded multiplayer, new cars and weapons and a new story.

The gameplay revolves around vehicular combat, with players choosing from one of several cars and then kitting them out with various primary and secondary weapons that can be mounted on the front and back, or just the front of the car. Each part of Meridian city is a different district with a different graphical style. As you move from area to area, you'll usually have three or four levels that culminate in you earning a new car. In each level, you'll also have the opportunity to complete secondary objectives which can net you extra skins for your cars, new cars and new weapons when you've completed a number of secondary objectives.

There are two basic types of levels: Racing and Arena. In the racing levels, you'll be tasked with getting from point A to point B or going in a number of laps in a circuit. Levels get complex though as you might have a time limit, a specific car you need to destroy, a car you need to project, or a certain number of level objects you need to destroy in addition to getting to the end of the race. Arena matches are non-linear battle arenas where you'll be pit against a number of cars in a free roaming area. You'll often need to destroy a certain number of cars, a certain car a number of times, or destroy more cars than any of your other opponents. There's a wide range of objectives for you to complete in both arena and racing.

Back from the previous game is the 'Unwreck' feature that allows you to rewind time. Don't like the way you got killed there? Rewind time. Miss a power-up? Do it over. Narrowly miss killing an opponent? Try again. Just be careful, as it also uses boost energy. Using boost and unwreck at the long time will either make you not fast enough to win or cause you to run dry when you really do need to unwreck.

Environments are now much more interactive. For example, you can destroy a monorail train's track supports and the monorail will crash onto the race area, or destroy the supports on a dry docked boat to try and make it land on cars behind you.

The game also has eight player online multiplayer and two player split-screen multiplayer. You can race or fight in an arena free for all or on a team. Online play has two additional gameplay modes called 'Cat and Mouse' and 'Base Assault'. Cat and Mouse will have you protecting your 'mouse' while trying to take out the other teams - attack and defend while your team counts on you for success! Base Assault has you attacking the other team's base while defending your own. To score a point, you need to drive the bomb power up to the opposing teams base to blow up their building to score.

Summary: Game of Thrones is a role-playing game based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin and visually inspired by the HBO TV series adaptation that debuted in 2011. The events and the setting of the game are inspired by the first book, A Game of Thrones. Instead of following the main storyline from the book and the TV series, the plot is set in parallel to it and does not overlap. As such, the struggle between the House Stark and the Lannister clan is only a reference in the game, but many locations and characters are shared.

The game is set on the continent Westeros, home of the Realm of the Seven Kingdoms. After the Targaryen line of kings ruled it for a long time, they were overthrown by a rebellion led by Robert Baratheon, who unified the lords and became the one to rule from the Iron Throne as lord of the Seven Kingdoms. The player gets to control two different characters in separate, alternating chapters. The first is Mors Westford, a member of the Night's Watch who guards the wall dividing the continent. From Castle Black, they keep back the creatures beyond. The second character is Alester Sarwyck, a priest of R'hllor who becomes involved with the politics of court. He is only introduced in the second chapter and during the course of the game their stories intertwine.

Starting with Mors Westford, the player is able to customize both characters through a number of parameters. The first part is the combat style. Mors gets to choose between landed knight, hedge knight or magnar, while Alester has access to water dancer, sellsword, or archer. Next the player gets to distribute points between the abilities strength, agility, luck, endurance, and intelligence. Further abilities are defined through stance points with a skill tree, and a fourth step involves skill points for certain types of weapons and armour. Finally, character traits are determined through a list of strengths and weaknesses. These include for instance born leader, leech and acrobat as strengths, and witless, clumsy and allergic as weaknesses.

The game world consists of several locations marked on a map and cannot be explored freely unless corresponding quests are triggered. New areas on the world map are only opened up gradually and the story along with its quests are largely linear. The game contains typical RPG gameplay elements with primary and secondary quests, fighting opponents to complete quests and collect loot, and buying items at shopkeepers and blacksmiths to equip the character with weapons, flasks and armour. Dialogues with characters allow choices of responses that in some cases may affect plot events, but offer no conversation topics to discuss. Cutscenes are triggered automatically during certain parts of the game. Characters level up through experience points and get access to new abilities.

Combat is done in real-time, with a system reminiscent of Dragon Age: Origins. The characters do not need to be moved around to engage or dodge, and weapons are not controlled manually. Instead the player determines the actions through an action queue where different attacks, stances and abilities can be equipped and these are then performed automatically. At any moment, it is possible to "pause" the game where the gameplay is slowed down significantly, making room to re-arrange the queue with new attacks and abilities. Companions join and leave as dictated by the plot, and the player is unable to choose them and manage the party throughout the course of the game. It is possible to change to a team mate and control them directly in battles, guiding the entire party one member at a time with different attacks, cycling through targets, etc.

Summary: The Golden Compass is an adaptation of the 2007 movie of the same, which in turn is based on the novel Northern Lights, the first in the His Dark Materials trilogy by British novelist Philip Pullman.

The game is set in a fantastical parallel universe where the soul of person resides out of the body and lives in the form of animals known as dæmons. The main character is Lyra Belacqua. Her best friend Roger is kidnapped by evil Gobblers and her uncle Lord Asriel is imprisoned when he discovers evidence that proves the existence of Dust particles, much to the dismay of the Magisterial representatives who rule the world as a dogmatic theocracy and do not allow people to contradict their doctrine. Lyra has to leave the safe haven that is Jordan College in Oxford to right the situation.

In typical 3rd-person action gameplay, Lyra needs to navigate the different environments. She excels at moving around with acrobatic actions and when enemies appear she relies on her wit, hiding behind objects or searching an escape route. When she is spotted, she can use one of the four collectibles to escape from a tricky situation. Health is represented as "courage" and a large extent of courage helps solving the puzzles. She can also play a Deception mini-game to outwit characters and gain additional courage.

Two other characters provide assistance her during her quest. The first is Pan, Lyra's dæmon and the manifestation of her spirit. Pan can transform into up to four different forms, gradually discovered during the quest. The basic Ermine form allows Pan to chew through ropes and reveals the areas where Lyra needs to solve puzzles or move around. The Sloth form introduces swinging to grab hold of branches or reach areas hard to access. The third form, Hawk, lets Lyra glide from great heights. She can also send out Pan in this form to retrieve objects at difficult locations. The final Wildcat form has Lyra slide down from special surfaces, climb nets and it provides a dash move to evade enemies.

Brute strength is represented by the second support character Iorek Byrnison, an armoured bear known as panserbjørne. He has most of the physical attacks. Next to health (replenished by bloodmoss) he has an armour gauge, filled up by gathering sky armour. Collected rage orbs fill up a rage meter, which introduces a special attack when maxed out. Pan is always by Lyra's side, while Iorek joins the party later in the game and he is not always present.

Lyra's journal stores her tasks, information about key locations and a section for the Alethiometer, the golden compass. It is a device that reveals the answer to any question when operated by a trained user. It contains four needles - three to construct a question and fourth for the answer. To ask questions and solve puzzles, Lyra needs to play the Divining game. It consists of three sessions where Lyra needs to match symbols to keep the focus (a circle of light) centred on the device, by pressing a key or button to spin a hand in a timely fashion. The meaning of the different symbols is revealed during the course of the game, by interacting with objects and characters. Conversations often introduce mini-games to keep the talking going.

Each of the characters can pick up objects that grant new abilities such as new forms, a slow spell, double damage or more insight into the workings of the Alethiometer.

Summary: Grand Theft Auto V takes place five years after Grand Theft Auto IV and is now set in Los Santos. It centers around three protagonists: Michael, Trevor and Franklin. They also often come together, especially for heists, a complex type of mission where a large operation needs to be planned and executed by determining a strategy and hiring additional henchmen.

Michael, whilst hiding in the witness protection program as a result of a botched robbery nine years earlier, encounters Franklin who, in his capacity as a repo man, is sent to get a car from Michael's son Jimmy. Michael however realises Franklin is being set up, so tells Franklin to crash his sons car into the dealership who sent him. After that, they become friends. One day, Michael discovers his wife in bed with another man, and with Franklin's help, chases him to a mansion, which they promptly burn to the ground. The mansion, unfortunately, belongs to Mexican drug lord Martin Madrazo, who demands they compensate him for what they did. They successfully rob a jewelry store, and one of Michael's old partners Trevor hears of this, and asks to team up with the other two, who agree. From here their lives begin to spiral out of control.

The game's multiplayer component is called GTA Online. It is set two months before the start of the single-player story. It allows up to 16 players to travel around a world identical to the single-player world to complete story-driven activities, both competitive and co-operative.

Summary: Hitman: Absolution is the fifth game in the stealth assassin series starring Agent 47 as the protagonist. The story continues after the events of the previous game, Hitman: Blood Money. Diana Burnwood, Agent 47's handler with the International Contract Agency, goes rogue and sets up a sabotage operation that risks exposing the entire agency. Benjamin Travis reforms the agency and puts a hit on Burnwood, tasking Agent 47 to kill her and bring back the teenage girl Victoria that is in her care. Early on in the game he tracks down Diana, but hesitates when he has the opportunity to kill her. From there, the story unfolds into a larger conspiracy that puts the girl Victoria in the center. Compared to the previous game, 47 now often has an emotional bond with the victims and he becomes hunted himself as well.

Rather than independent missions, they are now linked together with sections where 47 travels from one location to another. The basic gameplay is still present. He often has to infiltrate locations to take out a specific target and disappear again. Points are scored by completing primary and secondary objectives, along with the chosen method. Choosing a careful approach based on stealth and non-lethal kills is always rewarded more. After missions a ranking is shown and it is compared to players worldwide. In addition there are separate challenges to complete, such as using a certain amount of different weapons or disguises. Points are used to access upgrades that enhance Agent 47's skills, such as less visibility when hiding, more accuracy when shooting, less time to strangle opponents or faster melee combat. When the operation goes wrong, full out shooting is also possible, but will not lead to the best reward.

The core gameplay is still based around looking for cover, taking out and dragging people out of sight, and some acrobatic maneuvers. Certain parts of the environment can be used to jump or to hang on a ledge, but not everything. A feature called Instinct shows whether a certain part can be used or not. Instinct is gathered through actions in the game. It can also be used to activate Point Shooting. This mechanic allows Agent 47 to stop time, mark the opponents, and then continue to fire and kill quickly in succession. Another Instinct feature is the ability to look through walls to see the location of enemies and their movement pattern. A further use is bluff. When wearing a disguise, certain characters may still recognize him, especially when he gets too close. In those situations a bluff can be made as a last resort that eats up a lot of Instinct. Agent 47 will then make a move that throws them off so they lose their suspicion.

His main weapon is the signature Silverballer pistol with a silencer. Two of them can be equipped and used together. Weapons left behind by enemies can also be picked up and used. In addition there is room for gadgets such as a piano string, but also items found in the environment such as bottles, bricks, hammers, knives etc. They are used to kill or can be thrown to create a distraction. As enemies often patrol in groups, they need to be isolated and their movement needs to be studied. Strangled enemies can either be killed or just be rendered unconscious. To avoid alarms, they always need to be hidden, out of sight.

Next to the main mission, Contracts can be completed as an asynchronous multiplayer mode. These are custom tasks created by the developer or other players. Anyone can mark a specific target in a level and determine how he ought to be killed, based on a certain weapon or disguise for instance. These challenges can then be taken on by other players. Up to three victims can be assigned to a single Contract.

Summary: Killer is Dead is an action game that is no sequel to Killer7 or the No More Heroes series by the same developers, but shares elements such as violent action, a main character wielding a katana as the most prominent weapon, assassins as an important theme, and a cel shaded visual style. The game is divided into 12 episodes in locations all over the world and stars Mondo Zap as the main character. He is a contract executioner who works for the he Bryan Execution Firm. The game is set in the future and Monda receives jobs to kill cyborgs and assassins. Before each mission a brief overview of the objective is shown against a world map and in between the fighting there are often animated sequences that further the story. Completing a main mission usually opens up several side missions.

The main character wields a katana called Gekkou with his right hand for attacks and to deflect bullets. It absorbs bloods filling up a meter, enhancing Mondo's fighting ability. Combos increase the attack speed and a moon slash can be performed as a powerful attack. His left arm has a cybernetic enhancement and it is called Musselback. Various operations can be performed with it and these required blood absorbed from enemies. It is also used to solve puzzles and discover hidden areas, with four functions for the arm in total. Mondo can turn it into a regular human hand to crack fingerprint codes or change it into a ranged sub weapon that shoots projectiles. Separate buttons are used to block and dodge. Defeated enemies leave behind body parts that recover health and blood. Yellow moon crystals are collected to upgrade skills and health gems can level up the maximum health level.

After each mission Mondo receives a payment based on his performance. It is based on statistics such as his completion score, total damage bonus, rescue payment and toughness payment, total cool kills bonus, execution time or guard break payment, along with a general rating. Upgrades through moon crystals are divided into three categories: attack skills, sub weapon skills and special skills, unlocked gradually and with a fixed progression for each type. In the main office different types of costumes for various character can be equipped (when unlocked) and there is a gift shop where cash can be spent on various items. One of these are Mika tickets, that have his assistant Mika come to rescue when Mondo dies, providing a way to continue.

There is also a mini-game where Mondo gets to seduce women by taking pictures with Gigolo glasses. By timing when they are looking away and targeting specific areas, sexy pictures can be taken to provide moans of ecstasy and briefly remove certain clothes, and these also reveal her desires, such as the type of gifts she likes. Timing is important to fill a guts gauge, because otherwise he becomes nervous.

Summary: The King of Fighters XIII is the 13th game from the fighting series and it is based on version 1.1 from the arcade version with some bug corrections. It includes 31 characters, 2 characters never seen in the arcade version like Billy Kane and Saiki, 3 downloadable characters like Mr. Karate, Iori with fire powers and Kyo with a KOF '99 skin. It also contains a number of new stages and game modes not featured in the arcade version.

The gameplay includes EX moves: requires 1 gauge, Drive Cancel: can cancel special moves and super special moves using the "Hyper Drive gauge" useful to enter to Hyper Drive mode to execute big combos, Max Cancel: cancels a DM in a NEO MAX move using Hyper Drive and NEO MAX: like the Max2 from KOF 2002 but more powerful. When the latter move is executed, the background turns black and the camera zooms in rendering the attack more spectacular.

Summary: Lair is a game set exclusively on a fantasy-medieval world and concerns a war between two civilizations – the Asylian and the Mokai. The first, being in a better geographical position, having all the resources in abundance while the latter strife to survive in the barren lands. Both nations were at peace until the Mokai unleashed an attack towards their neighbour country Asylia.

You control an elite "Sky Guard" named Rohn, who belongs in the dragon-riding forces of Asylian army, and tries to stop this assault while at the same time figuring out if there are any deeper reasons behind this seemingly struggle for survival.

In each stage you get mission objectives ranging from defending a castle town to eliminating catapults and armies. The gameplay makes extensive use of the SIXAXIS motion sensor since most of the time you'll be fighting on the air and the movement there is solely dependent on this feature. While in the air you can throw fire to scorch your enemies or engage in a melee mode with other dragons where you can use bites, claws and combo attacks. At times you may also need to fight with your dragon while on ground or have your character battle another dragon-rider while on top of this rider’s dragon.

When you end the mission, depending on how well you did, you may earn a medal (bronze/silver/gold) which in turn allows you to learn new combat moves and unlock extra content in the "Extras" option of the main menu.

There is also a Lair Network option where you can check (while on-line) other players’ stats and achievements.

Summary: This is the first title of the Trails of Cold Steel subseries in The Legend of Heroes series of JRPGs. It follows the adventures of Rean and his friends as they go to a prestigious military academy and travel the continent.

The battle system is turn-based where you move characters around and unleash skills (known as Arts and Crafts) that can reach multiple enemies. It's a lot like Chrono Trigger in that these skills affect enemies within a line, circle, or box.

Character progression is interesting as you equip various orbs to enhance stats, learn new skills, and acquire interesting bonuses. It's a lot like the Materia system in Final Fantasy VII although it's far less easy to exploit.

When exploring locations, you can slash at enemies before starting battles in order to gain an advantage, uncover many treasure chests, and speak to loads of unique characters while checking off a list of side-quests.

Summary: Dawn of the Dragon is the third and final chapter of the Legend of Spyro trilogy. It starts when Spyro and Cynder are freed from their crystalline prison. They are former foes, but the Dark Master binds them through green energy chains. After escaping their prison with Sparx and Hunter, they are shown what the Dark Master has done after he escaped from the Well of Souls during the Night of Eternal Darkness. They travel through Dragon City, the Burned Lands and the Floating Islands to confront Malefor at his lair.

Just like the previous game, Dawn of the Dragon is a third-person action game with a focus on fighting and exploration even though progress is entirely linear. New to the series is the ability to fly at any time. This edition also provides a cooperative mode with Spyro and Cynder and with just a single player it is possible to switch between them at any time. Spyro attacks with fire, electricity, earth and ice, while Cynder controls poison, fear, wind and shadow. Collected gems provide power-ups and both characters can also equip pieces of dragon armour. Gems include blue ones to upgrade moves, red ones restore health, and green ones make available element attacks through dragon magic. The amount of blue ones provided is based on a melee combo system.

Fury gems have been removed. They are replaced with dark crystals that need to be destroyed as they drain magic. Fury is now determined through a meter that fills up during attacks. Next to the regular enemies there are now elite enemies that were a mask with a certain colour. A specific attack is needed to get rid off the mask and then regular attacks become effective.

Summary: LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is the first installment of the Harry Potter series in LEGO form. Spanning the first four years of the Harry Potter franchise, players take control of a wide variety of characters and relive famous moments from the first four books; Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire. Almost all of the game takes place inside Hogwarts.

The Story mode is broken up into four years with six chapter per year. When you first play story mode you are required to play as certain characters that are part of that story and you cannot choose any character from the entire series. But once you beat that chapter a Free Mode is unlocked, allowing you to pick any unlocked character and replay that story. All story chapters and years can be accessed in The Leaky Cauldron which acts as the central hub in the game. The entire environment allows for continuous play and most places can be revisited at any time. Many of the characters' interactions change however based on the time of year, or when certain characters are introduced such as the Dementors or Gilderoy Lockhart.

Outside of The Leaky Cauldron is Diagon Alley. In Diagon Alley you can head to other stores to obtain items and supplies. At Madam Malkin's Robes you can spend all of your hard earned studs (the currency) to buy new characters. At Eeylops Eye Emporium you can head upstairs and buy Red Bricks which contain cheat codes of sorts to use. And at Wiseacre's Wizarding Supplies you can buy fun new spells to cast on anybody you like. Casting spells is an important part of the gameplay and is accessed by a spell wheel in which you can choose many ranging from Wingardium Leviosa to the dreaded Aveda Kedavra (only the three versions of Voldemort can use this).

LEGO Harry Potter adds to the replay value by having a bunch of collectibles for you to obtain. If you want to get 100% completion you're going to have to do things such as find and purchase all 167 characters, rescue 50 students in peril, find 200 gold bricks, and much more. Hogwarts school is open to you at all time where you can search the many rooms and floors for all these collectibles. You will have to wait though if you try to get everything early because many characters have their own special abilities pertaining to them.

There is no online multiplayer in LEGO Harry Potter but there is co-op. At any time another person can join you in the action, played on a single screen. Similar to LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues, when one character goes off screen, it is split automatically and the game goes on that way until they are close again.
